How to tune a tenor sax

  1. Press Start Tuning and allow microphone access when your browser asks.
  2. Play one note. Play one long, steady note, close to the microphone, and let it ring.
  3. Read the display. The big letter is the nearest note. The bar shows how far off you are: left is flat (tune up), right is sharp (tune down).
  4. Turn until it goes green. Inside your tolerance (±3 cents by default) the display turns green and the string gets a check mark.

Tips

  • Tune on written G or A with steady breath support.
  • Small mouthpiece movements make big pitch changes; move 1–2 mm at a time.

FAQ

Does this tenor sax tuner show written or concert pitch?

It shows the written note for a B♭ tenor sax by default, so it matches the music you read. Choose “Concert pitch (C)” under Settings to see sounding pitch.

Why am I sharp at the start and flat later?

Instruments warm up as you play. Tune after a few minutes of playing, and check again during long rehearsals.

Can I tune to A = 442 Hz?

Yes. Open Settings and set Reference A4 to 442, or any value from 400 to 480 Hz.
